Hydrogen Electrolyser Sizing & H₂ Conversion Calculator
Screen electrolyser hydrogen production, power required, annual output, normal volume and energy content with explicit reference conditions.
This tool provides a preliminary engineering calculation for reference. Final equipment selection, design and commissioning decisions must consider manufacturer data, applicable standards, operating conditions and project-specific engineering requirements. It is not certified design output.

Formula
H₂ kg/h = electrical kW / user-entered SEC (kWh/kg)
Power kW = target kg/h × user-entered SEC
Normal volume = mass/density at the displayed normal reference conditions
Worked example
5 MW at 52 kWh/kg and 8000 operating hours per year.
Expected check: Hydrogen production = 96.15; Annual hydrogen = 769.
Assumptions
- • Specific energy consumption (SEC) is entered by the user; no universal electrolyser efficiency is assumed
- • Nm³ basis is dry H₂ at 0°C and 101.325 kPa absolute
- • LHV and HHV are distinct editable energy bases: default LHV 33.3 kWh/kg and HHV 39.4 kWh/kg
Limitations
- • Preliminary engineering/reference energy and mass conversion only
- • No electrolyser OEM performance guarantee or project-execution experience is implied
- • Does not size stacks, balance of plant, compression, storage, water treatment, power electronics or safety systems
Frequently asked questions
Can this result be used for final equipment selection?
No. Use it for a preliminary check, then verify manufacturer data, site conditions, applicable standards and the complete system design.
What does formula version 1.0.0 mean?
It identifies the exact calculation logic used so a saved result can be traced when the formula register changes.
Can Elexorn review my calculation?
Yes. Transfer the result to Request a Quote or Talk to an Elexorn Engineer and add the relevant project or equipment details.
